Washington DC Restaurant Review: Food
Back in 1998, Town amp; Country called Bistro Lepic the “Personal Secret Favorite Restaurant” of Georgetown residents, but its reputation has since launched it into the top 40 Zagat restaurants in DC. Many of the best dishes are classics like hearty cassoulet with duck confit, lamb, sausage, and cannellini beans ($22.95). One of the best starters is the mussel soup which doesn’t have many mussels but makes up for it with its creamy base of leeks and potatoes ($7.95). Also outstanding is the rich wild mushrooms fricassee ($8.95). Among the main courses, favorites include the simple grilled trout ($18.95) or the sautéed sea scallops with ginger broccoli mousse ($24.95). If you can save room for dessert, it’s worth it for the intense double chocolate tart served warm with drizzled cream and powdered sugar ($8.00).
Washington DC Restaurant Review: Décor
Downstairs looks like a cozy bistro with plain wood floors and a back wall mural of Caillebotte’s famous painting “Paris Street, Rainy Day” with a matching metal silhouette of the couple sheltered under an umbrella decorating the front door. The upstairs wine bar has a French Asian atmosphere with trompe-l’oeil cork flooring, and clusters of small dark rattan couches. There are lots of paintings of pigs upstairs both discreetly naked and wearing chef hats.
Washington DC Restaurant Review: Specials
On top of everything else, Bistro Lepic has great weekly specials. There are complimentary wine tastings every Tuesday evening from 6 to 8. From Wednesday through Monday, the wine bar has a happy hour from 5:30 to 7 with all wines by the glass at half price.
